5 Ideas for St. Patrick’s Day Fun in Southern Minnesota

You don’t need the luck of the Irish to find fun activities this St. Patrick’s Day week! Southern Minnesota has plenty of events for those of all ages if you know where to look. From adults-only pub crawls to family-friendly parades and movies, there are plenty of ways to enjoy this weekend’s holiday.

The St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl

Plenty of traditional pub crawls will have the green beer flowing for those ages 21+ seeking to celebrate! The Minneapolis “Official’ St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl will begin on Friday, March 17th at 4:00 p.m. at The Pourhouse, a prohibition bar, located at 10 S. Fifth St. #11 in Minneapolis.

Called the “largest St. Patrick’s Day Bar Crawl” in the United States, this celebration will carry over into Saturday, March 18. Besides touring several city pubs, the crawl will also include a social media Costume Contest. There will also be prizes and cash for those with the best video or photos throughout the event.

Tickets costing $10.99 allow guests entry to each bar, exclusive drink specials, a PubCrawls.com wristband, live music, bands, and DJs at select locations, and a detailed digital crawl map. Click here for more information. Guests must be 21 or over.

The Shamrock Shuffle

Looking to get active to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? You and your family can join the Marshall Area YMCA’s Shamrock Shuffle on Saturday, March 18th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The 5K will start at the Marshall Area YMCA and end at Brau Brothers Brewery, 1010 E. Southview Dr. in Marshall.

The cost to pre-register is $45 per runner. Packets must be picked up (by yourself or a friend) on March 17 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to park at the brewery and take shuttles to the Y prior to the run. Each participant gets a free beverage, and food will be served. For more information, call (507) 532-9622.

St. Patrick's Day Parade - St. Peter

Brave the weather and bring your family out to St. Peter, MN on Friday, March 17th for the 45th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade! With a longer parade route this year, to accommodate the growing crowds of revelers, you’re sure to find a great spot to view the fun. Dress in your St. Patty’s Day finest and view the parade, starting at 5:30 p.m.

St. Patrick's Day Parade - New Ulm

The oldest consecutive running Irish parade in Minnesota is held annually in New Ulm, MN! Hosted by the Irish Cultural Society of New Ulm, this year’s parade kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17th. Come join the revelry and dress up to celebrate everything Irish!

Indoor Entertainment for St. Patrick’s Day

Even if you’re not in the mood to head outdoors into the chilly weather, or if parades and pub crawls aren’t your cup of tea, you can still have fun this St. Patrick’s Day. Country Living has compiled this excellent list of Irish movies to rent or stream. Your kids and teens will enjoy this Monopoly variation, “Ireland-Opoly,” which features “Irish cultural items for the properties and well-made, sculpted tokens.” And while this list of art project ideas is perfect for teachers, your kids might also enjoy a St. Patrick’s Day themed craft!

Have a safe and fun holiday weekend!
