3 Ways to Celebrate Mother's Day in Southern Minnesota

This Sunday, May 8th, will mark a very important day to celebrate all the mothers and mother figures in our lives! There are countless ways to enjoy southern Minnesota with a mom in your life. Here are a few ideas to get your creative juices flowing.

Wine and Dine

Of course, one great and easy gift for mom is simply giving her the day off. Too often, it is mom’s shoulders that bear the brunt of the daily menu. From meal planning to grocery shopping, and cooking, it always seems to be Mom’s job to get food on the table for everyone.

This Sunday, celebrate her by taking her out to eat or even cooking for her. There is an endless list of great places near us to enjoy a meal, but Stillwater’s St. Croix Vineyards may have the answer perfect for any parent with the “Mothers: Wine and Unwind” event on both Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8.

Attending moms will get a glass of wine and a free mini-massage. See the event’s website here for more details!

Enjoy Her Hobbies

Whatever she is into, take some time this weekend to enjoy the things she loves. From gardening to shopping, craft projects to chocolate, by now you know your mom well enough to know she’d love to just spend time with you. Why not join her in doing something she loves?

If craft fairs are her fancy, Old St. Anthony’s on Second Street in Minneapolis will host a Mother’s Day Market at the Machine Shop. With over 50 vendors of handmade goods, not to mention some tasty, local food and cocktails, this event would make an awesome way to spend your time with the woman who birthed you!

A Day Off

Cooking isn’t the only job mom should be alleviated from on her big day. Depending on the age of the children, it may be on dad to make this a special holiday for her. Consider taking the youngsters for at least part of the day, giving her some space and quiet time for whatever she’d like to do.

Consider Mankato’s own Children’s Museum of Southern Minnesota, which is open on Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Maybe she’d love to curl up with a good book, soak in a bubble bath, take a quiet walk alone, or gather with some girlfriends. Whatever she’d love to do with some downtime, give her that chance!

Show Her She Matters

No matter what way you choose to do so, spend some time thanking moms on Sunday for all they do. If you’ve lost your mother, take this day to celebrate a strong mom you know! It doesn’t have to be your own. It is a wonderful way to show a friend or family member you see all the hard work they do as a mother, and love them for it!

Whatever you choose, make Sunday, May 8 a special occasion for the mothers in your life. Take in all southern Minnesota has to offer, and enjoy the day!
